About Us
Geraldine Claytor Magnet Academy, located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, opened in 2017 as a modern educational institution designed to serve the diverse needs of the community’s students. It replaced the former Longfellow School, bringing with it renewed energy and resources to support academic excellence. From its inception, the school has been deeply connected to the community, with parents, educators, and local leaders actively participating in shaping its vision. The goal was to create a nurturing environment where students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade could thrive academically and socially.
The academy is named in honor of the late Rev. Geraldine Claytor, a beloved community advocate and home-school coordinator who was deeply committed to improving educational opportunities in Bridgeport. Claytor’s passion for education and her tireless work to advocate for better resources and facilities left a lasting impact on the community. In recognition of her dedication, the Bridgeport Board of Education chose to name the new school after her, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire future generations. This decision symbolizes the school’s commitment to community involvement and the value placed on empowering families through education.
Geraldine Claytor Magnet Academy has distinguished itself through its strong emphasis on STEAM education integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into a cohesive learning experience. This focus prepares students for the demands of the 21st century by fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The curriculum is designed to engage students with hands-on projects and innovative instruction, promoting a love for learning in these vital areas. By combining a strong academic foundation with real-world applications, the academy aims to equip students with the tools they need for future academic and career success.
